Presbyteral spiritual exercises of Martini in Galloro

“…Even in the roman Curia everyone wants to be more than what they are. Hence a sort of unconscious censorship of words. Some things are not said because it is known they hold up careers. This is a very serious problem of the Church, mainly in that church ordered by hierarchies, because it prevents us from telling the truth. You try to say what your superiors like, try to do according to what you think their desire might be, making a great inefficiency to the Pope himself… unfortunately there are some priests who  accurately decide to become bishops and they succeed. There are some bishops who do not speak because they know they would never get a promotion otherwise. Some others who do not speak not to stop their nomination to become cardinal. We have to ask God the gift of liberty. We are called to be transparent, to tell the truth. We need a great grace.  But the one who gets out of it is free”.

Before: “Saint Paul speaks about the “merit of being a group”, of those who think to have a lot of proselytes, to bring people because you are more important in this way. This serious defect is much present eve in today’s Church. Like the vice of the vainglory, of boasting. We like applause more than hoots, welcoming than resistance. And I could add that vanity in the Church is great. Great! You can see it in the clothes. Once cardinals had six meters of silk train. But continually the Church gets rid and puts on useless ornaments. It definitely has this tendency to boasting”.
