ENCICLOPEDYA OF THE RELIGIONS IN ITALY

The MO.CO.VA. as a catholic movement of constructive suggestions comes out on the new work of the catholic publishing house ELLEDICI, edited by the professor Massimo Introvigne (director of CENSUR), with the title “Enciclopedya of the Religions in Italy” (may 2001; pp. 93/94).

The MO.CO.VA. (Vatican Council II Movement) was born in 1986, thanks to Father Franco Ratti, born in Monopoli (Bari) in 1940. Spiritual son of Padre Pio, (whom he personally knows) in 1963 he became a catholic priest; student of Emanuele Severino and Italo Mancini at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan, in 1973 he took his degree in History and Philosophy with a thesis about Philosophy of Religion. After a spiritual experience, occurred to him in 1976 ( while he was praying, facing the tabernacle in the church of S. Francesco, in Monopoli, Christ told him with an inner strength: “I consecrate you as prophet and antagonist of Satan” ) father Ratti reduced himself to a laical condition in order to carry out his singular vocation, aware that ” he has been consecrated Prophet directly and personally by Jesus Christ for the Reformation of the Church”.

After defining himself as a “ecclesiastical centre of all the progressive and reformist catholics” mainly Italian and in particular from the South of Italy, the MO.CO.VA collaborates with the austro-german WIR SIND KIRCHE (author of a collection of signatures about progressive catholic themes, that 8 million of people joined ) while spreading all over the world the prophetic message of Father Franco Ratti, which includes, among the others, the following subjects:donation of the Vatican State to Italy and the Pope as bishop of Jerusalem; consecration of the laymen for the celebration of the Eucharist, (where priests are missing ), baptism of the adults and assimilation of the confirmation.

About the ” cairo-baptism” (baptism of the adults) instead of the “pedo-baptism” (baptism of the babies), the Vatican Council II Movement ( that could explain its attitudes in a series of conferences about ” the Catholic church like the Titanic”, even at the catholic University of Tubinga, in Germany, thanks to the mediation of Nobert Greinacher, author of a work about the prophets of the New Testament ) has introduced the “rite of the white rose”, through which the parents mark their baby with a rose within a special blessing rite, in view of the future baptism, to be given regularly in their parish church.

From the doctrinal point of view, the Vatican Council II Movements veins its progressivism of moderately eschatological accents, underlining, with serenity, the progressive and pressing closeness of humanity to the Parousia. With controversial accents against the ecclesiastic style of Giovanni Paolo II. ” This is my prophecy- Father Ratti suggests- the factious mentality of Rome will succumb”, of that Rome which would go through one of its most “antichrist” moments, that is of occlusion to that Spirit, that wants the exodus of the catholic church from the Costantinian and medieval Egypt. Catholicism must open to what is defined ” Humanism of Sex” : from self-masturbation (provided it is healthy) to pre-marriage sexual intercourses, from divorce (provided in serious situations) to adult omosexual couples ( provided they are monogamic, lasting and parental), to female priesthood.

The MO.CO.VA. is widespread throughout Italy with an operative core of about forty people ( among Monopoli, Avellino, Como, and Taranto), coordinated by the presidents Prof. Giuseppe Festa and Prof. Rosa Cassese, a couple from Avellino.

The MO.CO.VA. enjoys the sympathy of bishops and the most open-minded priests, of religious people, even contemplative. Of laical people and of the youngs, too. Important is the support of Hans Küng to its founder. “Courage, Father Franco. History is with you” he wrote to him in 1995.

Worth of attention is the deep relation of MO.CO.VA. with VOCATIO, the italian movement of the married priests. In 2001 two conferences, of the Dalai Lama and Eugen Drewermann, will be organized in Avellino and at the University of Salerno.

P.S. At the moment there isn’t any bibliography of the movement, apart from various articles on the local, national and austrian press, with several television participations. A wide introduction of MO.CO.VA.( with an interview to the founder) can be found in an article, with an apologetic style, in Maria Angela Mastronardi, ” Riformare la Chiesa “, Portanuova, XIV (april 1995 ), pp 32-33
Recently, on thursday 1st june 2000, the ” Corriere della Sera” pointed out the participation of MO.CO.VA. to the congress: “Free State and Free Churches in Europe and Italy”, on the 2nd and 3nd of June 2000, in the Sala della Protomoteca, in the Capitol, in Rome. Together with “Wir Sind Kirche”, the catholic magazine “The roof ” from Naples, the ecumenic magazine “Comparisons”, with the “Basic christian communities”, as well as Waldensian, Evangelical, jewish and muslim communities.
